Job Security is Not a Thing and I Need Everyone to Fully Understand This
We really need to talk about this.
I’m not sure about you, but I keep reading about layoffs. I was laid off last year out of nowhere, and I keep hearing about more and more layoffs every day. It is truly devastating to watch. Many people who have been with companies since their inception or who have been there for many years are being let go, and it’s heartbreaking.
Being laid off myself and watching companies get rid of people has really made me realize that “job security” is simply not a thing. It quite literally does not exist. A company will get rid of you as soon as they don’t need you or they can find someone to do the work for cheaper. That is just a fact. They don’t care about what kind of expenses you have, where you’ll end up, or how bad you need healthcare. Employment is a business transaction. You are renting out your body and expertise for a paycheck. Once you’re no longer needed, you’re done and it’s a very tough pill to swallow.
